What Is Pre-Prosthetic Surgery?

Pre-prosthetic surgery surgically prepares your mouth for a dental prosthesis by reshaping the soft tissues and/or bone. The specific treatment involved for your pre-prosthetic surgery depends on several factors, and your oral surgeon will go over your treatment plan during your consultation.

Common procedures involved in pre-prosthetic surgery include:

• Excess gum removal

Most pre-prosthetic treatments are minor outpatient procedures. During your consultation, your oral surgeon will perform an evaluation and 3D imaging of your mouth and face. This helps your surgeon determine an accurate and optimal treatment plan. The type of anesthesia will also be selected at this time.

Your second appointment will be your surgical procedure. You will be given the form of anesthesia selected during your consultation, which will ensure you stay comfortable throughout your procedure.
