Comfortable & Safe Tooth Removal

Although adult teeth are intended to last a lifetime, many adults will lose at least one tooth in their lives due to trauma, disease, aging, poor oral health, or other conditions. Sometimes a tooth may need to be removed to protect the health of the other teeth.

Dr. Sherban is a board-certified oral surgeon who performs a wide range of oral surgery services, including tooth extraction. When you come to The Regional Center for Dental Implants & Oral Surgery, Dr. Sherban will create a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs. Contact our office today to schedule an appointment and see how we can improve your oral health.

When Is Tooth Extraction Necessary?

While we always try to save a natural tooth, sometimes extraction is the best option to restore oral health. Common reasons for tooth extraction include:

  • Tooth decay
  • Advanced gum disease (periodontal disease)
  • Infection
  • Dental crowding
  • Trauma
  • Impaction
  • Baby teeth that have not fallen out
  • Preparation for orthodontic treatment

Dr. Sherban is an experienced oral surgeon who performs tooth extractions for children, teens, and adults. If a tooth needs to be extracted, your options for tooth replacement, such as dental implants, can also be discussed.

The Tooth Extraction Process

When you visit us for a consultation, Dr. Sherban will take 3D scans of your mouth to create an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. In some cases, a tooth extraction may be performed the same day as your first visit. Prior to your procedure, Dr. Sherban will go over your treatment plan in detail, including your options for anesthesia. Our practice will make sure you are comfortable throughout your procedure.

After your tooth extraction, we will provide you with post-operative instructions so you can have a smooth recovery.

Types of Anesthesia

Our practice offers several types of anesthesia and sedation to ensure your comfort.

Tooth Replacement Options After Extraction

We want you to have a positive oral surgery experience from start to finish. While having a tooth extracted may be recommended, there are several replacement options available to restore your oral health and smile.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are considered an ideal tooth replacement option because they function and look like natural teeth. A dental implant post is surgically inserted into the jaw bone; over time, the implant post fuses with the bone to create a stable and permanent foundation. Dental implants also prevent bone loss from occurring since the implant post acts like a natural tooth root by stimulating the jaw bone to promote more healthy bone tissue. The crown of the implant is custom made to blend in with your surrounding teeth and looks so natural that most people won’t be able to tell which tooth is the implant!

Removable Dentures or Dental Bridges

Traditional dentures and bridges are a popular choice for replacing a missing tooth or teeth. Unlike dental implants, dentures are removable. A dental bridge may be fixed or removable. Both dentures and dental bridges must be replaced over time due to normal wear and tear. They also do not prevent jaw bone loss. If you would like dentures, or are looking for a better fit from your dentures, Dr. Sherban can perform pre-prosthetic surgery to make sure your prosthesis feels as secure and comfortable as possible.

Socket Preservation (Bone Grafting)

After a tooth is extracted, we can preserve the tooth socket’s size and shape by placing bone grafting material into the empty socket. This is called socket preservation, which helps to reduce bone loss caused by tooth loss, and helps to prepare for a dental implant in the future.

No Tooth Replacement

Choosing to not replace a tooth that has been removed can have long-term effects, such as facial sagging, dental shifting, jaw bone loss, and eating and/or speaking issues. We encourage you to contact us when you are ready to discuss your tooth replacement options so we can restore your smile and oral health.
